چکیده

The effect of human placenta! lactogen on the mainte nance and growth of precancerous mammary hyperplastic nodules was studied in ovariectomized, multiparous C3H/He female mice. In mice receiving injections of 0.5 mg of human placenta! lactogen twice daily for 19 days and on the morning of the 20th day, beginning the morning following bilateral ovariectomy, the number of nodules per mouse was similar to that in the intact controls. The ovariectomized controls had significantly fewer nodules than the intact controls and the ovariectomized, placenta! lactogen-treated mice. The average size of nodules was significantly larger in the ovariectomized, placenta! lacto gen-treated mice and was smaller in the ovariectomized controls than in the intact controls. The number of very large nodules was extremely high in the ovariectomized, placental lactogen-treated mice. These results suggest that placenta! lactogen plays an important role in the mainte nance and growth of precancerous mammary hyperplastic nodules in mice.

Successful transplantation of human benign breast tumors into the athymic nude mouse and demonstration of enhanced DNA synthesis by human placental lactogen.

Each of 10 biopsy specimens of benign human breast tumors, obtained from 10 patients, was cut into slices (30 slices/specimen) and transplanted s.c. into 3 female athymic nude mice (30 mice, 10 grafts/mouse). Of the 3 mice in each of the 10 triads, 2 mice were intact and 1 mouse was ovariectomized 30 days before transplanta tion. Ten days after transplantation the following s.c. injections were...

Study of Placental Lactogen Gene Polymorphism and Its Association With Milk Production Traits in The Holstein Cows

Placental Lactogen is a polypeptide hormone that is produced by the Placenta, also known as chorionic somatomammotropin hormone. It has both Growth Hormone and Prolactin activities on growth, lactation, and luteal steroid production. The objective of this study was to investigate the bovine Placental Lactogen (bPL) gene polymorphism of Holstein cows in Razavi Khorasan province. Blood samples we...

Development and characterization of mouse hyperplastic mammary outgrowth lines from BALB/cfC3H hyperplastic alveolar nodules.

Five hyperplastic outgrowth lines were developed by serial transplantation of hyperplastic alveolar nodules from BALB/cfC3H mice into BALB/c hosts. The lines were used to study the biology, morphology, and virology of premalignant tissue originating in mouse mammary tumor virus (MuMTV)-positive animals. The five lines differed with respect to tumor potential and growth characteristics, corrobor...
